TCS NQT 2027 Registration — A 27-Year IT Career Consultant’s Honest Guide to the Timeline, Eligibility and Preparation for Final-Year Students (2026)
TCS NQT 2027 registration is the question I get asked most in October, usually in the same words: “Sir, when does it open, and am I too late?” The honest answer is that it depends on which route you mean, and most students do not know there is more than one. I have watched final-year students miss a window simply because they were waiting for one big announcement that never comes the way they expect.
So let me clear this up the way I would in my Bhubaneswar office, with a notebook and a pen. By the end, you will know which routes exist, what has already closed, what to check this week, and how to prepare without wasting two months on the wrong material.
First, Understand What TCS NQT Actually Is
NQT stands for National Qualifier Test. It is one common exam, run on the TCS iON platform, that TCS uses to hire freshers. Your score decides which track you are considered for: Ninja, Digital, or Prime. These are not three different exams. They are three salary levels coming out of the same test.
One more thing that surprises students. The NQT score is not only for TCS. It is accepted by thousands of other companies, and the score stays valid for two years. So even if TCS does not work out, the effort does not go to waste.
That is the reason TCS NQT 2027 registration deserves a proper look, even if your dream company is somewhere else.
TCS NQT 2027 Registration — Why There Is No Single Date
Here is where students get confused. There are three different routes, and each has its own timing.
Route 1: The priority institutes drive. For the Batch of 2027, TCS opened registration for students of priority institutes from 8 to 15 May 2026. The eligibility there was a minimum 60% aggregate and no more than one backlog. If your college was on that list and you registered, you are already in the system. If you did not, that particular window has closed.
Route 2: The all-India NQT hiring. This is the open route for freshers outside priority institutes. TCS publishes it on its careers page, and the details change from cycle to cycle. Some third-party sites list a Batch of 2027 roadmap, but they also say plainly that dates and criteria should be confirmed from the official notification. I would treat those articles as preparation material, not as official dates.
Route 3: The paid iON NQT. This is the one students can act on most often. One of the sources I checked, last updated in mid-September, showed the next paid test on 19 October 2026 with an apply-by date of 7 October 2026. Today is 8 October. If that report is right, that window has just closed, and your next step is to create your profile on iON and see the next slot.
Different websites also disagree on how often the paid test runs. Some say every two to four weeks. Others say four windows a year. I will not pick a side. The iON registration page is the only place that shows your real next date.

What to Do This Week About TCS NQT 2027 Registration
Do these four things before you read another prep article.
- Create your profile on the TCS iON NQT portal. Dates usually show up inside the registration flow once your profile exists.
- Use a personal email ID and a mobile number you check daily. TCS has said this clearly in its notices. A college mail ID that you never open is how people miss a slot.
- Keep your documents ready. Marksheets for 10th, 12th and every semester, plus your degree details.
- Ask your placement cell whether your college is a priority institute and whether a campus drive is already scheduled. Many colleges handle part of this internally.
If you do only this, you are ahead of most of your batch.
Eligibility — The Rules That Reject People Quietly
I have seen good students rejected for rules they never read. Read these slowly.
- You need around 60% or 6 CGPA consistently through 10th, 12th and graduation.
- You should have no active backlog at the time of registration, or at joining, depending on the drive. The priority drive allowed one backlog at registration, so always read your own notice.
- Education gaps are checked. A commonly quoted limit is 24 months overall. Declare any gap honestly.
- You should be a full-time student of a recognised degree. Extended education can cause trouble.
- Age is often quoted as 18 to 28 years, and experience up to two years is allowed for some drives.
- Open to both CS and non-CS branches. Mechanical, Civil, ECE and EEE students apply too.
One warning. TCS also asks you not to misrepresent anything. If your marks or gap details do not match your documents, the application can be rejected without a conversation. Be careful and be honest.

The Exam Pattern in Simple Words
The NQT has two parts. Think of it as a ladder.
Part A is the Foundation section. It runs for about 75 minutes and covers three things: numerical ability, verbal ability and reasoning. This is the part that decides your Ninja chance. There is no live coding here.
Part B is the Advanced section. It runs for about 115 minutes and has harder quantitative and reasoning questions, plus coding. Sources differ on whether there are two or three coding problems, and the pattern gets tweaked between cycles. Check the latest pattern on iON before you start practising for one specific format.
Languages commonly allowed for coding include C, C++, Java, Python and Perl.
One useful tip I give every batch. Attempt the Advanced section even if you only want Ninja. It can raise your track, and it does not hurt your Foundation result.
Ninja, Digital and Prime — What You Actually Get
Salary bands reported for 2025–26 are roughly these:
| Track | Reported CTC | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Ninja | about ₹3.4 to 3.6 LPA | Foundation section |
| Digital | about ₹7 LPA | Foundation plus a strong Advanced section |
| Prime | about ₹9 to 11.5 LPA | Top scores in Advanced plus a tougher interview |
TCS does not publish exact cut-off scores, so any number you see online is candidate-reported. Use these figures to plan, not to promise yourself an outcome.

An 8-Week Preparation Plan for TCS NQT 2027 Registration Holders
Do not buy five courses. Pick one source for each section and finish it.
Weeks 1 and 2: Foundation basics. Number systems, percentages, ratios, time and work, averages. Practise 30 questions a day with a timer. Start a small notebook of mistakes.
Weeks 3 and 4: Verbal and reasoning. Reading comprehension, grammar, sentence correction, then series, puzzles and seating arrangements. Read one English article daily. It helps more than you think.
Weeks 5 and 6: Coding. Arrays, strings, loops, recursion, sorting and searching. Pick one language and stay with it. Practise reading input and printing output properly, because small input mistakes cost marks.
Week 7: Advanced aptitude. Harder data interpretation and logical reasoning. This is where Digital candidates separate from the rest.
Week 8: Full mock tests. Take at least three full-length tests in the real time limit. Review every wrong answer. Sleep properly the night before.
For the interview stage, keep one project ready to explain in simple language. Know your resume line by line. If you are weak at resume screening, my guide on how ATS systems screen freshers will help you fix the basics.

What Happens After the Test
Many students prepare only for the exam and then freeze at the next step. Here is the usual path, in plain words.
Result and shortlisting. Reports say results come a few weeks after the test, and you check your scorecard on the iON dashboard. Shortlisted candidates then get a call for the interview stage. Exact timelines change by cycle, so keep your email and phone active.
The technical interview. Expect questions on your own resume first. Your final-year project, your programming language, basic data structures, and a few database questions are common. Digital and Prime interviews go deeper. Prime candidates are reported to face a review of an AI or data project, so if you have one, keep it ready.
The HR round. This is simpler than students fear. They check communication, willingness to relocate, shift flexibility and your understanding of the company. Be honest and calm. If you are from Odisha and happy to work from a nearby centre or relocate, say it clearly, because it affects posting decisions.
Documents and joining. Offer letters come with a document check. This is where mismatched marks or unexplained gaps create trouble. Keep original marksheets, ID proof and your degree details in one folder. If you are a final-year student, clear every pending paper before your joining date.
A small habit that helps. After every mock test, write three lines: what went wrong, why, and what you will change. Students who do this for eight weeks improve far faster than those who only keep taking more tests.
Mistakes I See Every Year
Waiting for the perfect date. The students who register early and prepare steadily beat the ones who wait.
Ignoring verbal ability. Many engineers treat English as a side subject. It is 20 or more marks you can pick up with daily reading.
Learning five coding languages. Choose one. Be good at it.
Skipping mocks. Practice without a timer is a different skill from the real test.
Treating TCS as the only door. Because the score is valid for two years and accepted widely, keep your other applications running. My placement season guide for October to December shows how to run this alongside your campus drives.
If You Miss the Window or Do Not Clear It
It happens, and it is not the end. The score validity means a good attempt now can still help later. Other routes also exist. A support role, for example, can be a strong start, and I have written about it in the application support engineer career for freshers. And if you are worried about AI changing entry-level hiring, my honest take on AI and engineering jobs in India will help you think clearly.

Your Action Steps, Year by Year
Final year, now: Create your iON profile, keep documents ready, start Week 1 of the plan, and check with your placement cell.
Pre-final year: Do not wait for final year. Build aptitude habits and one coding language now. You will have a big head start next September.
Already graduated: Check the age, gap and experience rules carefully, then register on the next paid cycle and prepare with mocks.
FAQs — TCS NQT 2027 Registration
FAQ 1 — When does TCS NQT 2027 registration open?
There is no single date. The priority institutes drive for the Batch of 2027 had registration from 8 to 15 May 2026. The all-India hiring and the paid iON NQT follow their own windows, and the next slot shows inside the iON registration flow. Create your profile and check it regularly.
Consultant’s Note — I tell students to check iON every week in the season. Waiting for a headline is how people miss windows
FAQ 2 — Is TCS NQT 2027 registration free or paid?
It depends on the route. The hiring drives for priority institutes and some all-India cycles have been free for eligible candidates, while the regular iON NQT is a paid test. Read the notice for your exact route and fee before paying anything.
Consultant’s Note — Never pay through any link that did not come from the official TCS or iON pages.
FAQ 3 — Who can apply for TCS NQT 2027 registration?
Final-year students of the 2027 batch, and recent graduates in the eligible band, from engineering and several other streams. The usual conditions are 60% or 6 CGPA throughout, no active backlog, limited education gap and age within the stated limit. Always read the notice for your specific drive.
Consultant’s Note — Check your 10th and 12th marks first. That is where students are surprised.
FAQ 4 — Can non-CS students apply for TCS NQT 2027 registration?
Yes. Several sources confirm that Mechanical, Civil, ECE and EEE students are eligible for the NQT. A few specific campus drives are limited to certain branches, so check your own notice.
Consultant’s Note — I have seen non-CS students clear Ninja by working hard on aptitude and one coding language.
FAQ 5 — What is the difference between Ninja, Digital and Prime?
They are three tracks from the same NQT. Ninja depends on the Foundation section. Digital and Prime need strong Advanced scores and a tougher interview. Reported pay is about ₹3.4 to 3.6 LPA, ₹7 LPA and ₹9 to 11.5 LPA, respectively.
Consultant’s Note — Aim for Digital in preparation. If you land Ninja, you still have a job. If you aim only for Ninja, you cap yourself.
FAQ 6 — How long is the NQT score valid?
The score is valid for two years and can be used to apply to other companies that accept NQT scores, not only TCS.
Consultant’s Note — Treat one good attempt as a two-year asset, not a one-day event.
FAQ 7 — How many times can I attempt the NQT?
Rules on attempts can change by drive and by whether you take the paid test or a free hiring cycle. Check the current terms on iON before you register for a retake.
Consultant’s Note — Do not rush a retake. Study your wrong answers first, then book the next slot.
FAQ 8 — Which programming language should I choose for the coding section?
Pick the one you are most comfortable with from the allowed list, usually C, C++, Java or Python. Comfort with input and output handling matters as much as the logic.
Consultant’s Note — I usually suggest Python for beginners and Java or C++ for students who already like them. Do not switch late.
FAQ 9 — How much preparation time do I really need?
Most students do well with about eight focused weeks of daily practice. Students with strong aptitude and coding habits may need less, and those starting from zero may need more.
Consultant’s Note — Daily 90 minutes beats a weekend marathon every time.
FAQ 10 — What if I miss TCS NQT 2027 registration for this cycle?
Look for the next paid iON slot, keep practising, and apply to other companies in parallel. The skills you build apply to many other hiring tests.
Consultant’s Note — A missed window is a scheduling problem, not a career verdict. Keep going.
Final Word on TCS NQT 2027 Registration
TCS NQT 2027 registration is not one date on one poster. It is a few routes, each with its own rules, and the students who do well are the ones who sort out their profile, documents and daily practice early. Check iON this week, read your notice slowly, and start Week 1 of the plan tomorrow. That is all it takes to be ahead of most of your batch.
