AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers — A 27-Year IT Career Consultant’s Honest Guide to Jobs, Skills and Timelines (2026)
AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers is the topic my phone has been full of since September. The message is almost always the same. “Sir, ₹1 lakh crore is coming to Odisha. How many jobs is that for me?” Good question. Let me answer it with numbers, not excitement.
Last week, a Mechanical student from Jajpur sat in my office. I’ll call him Bikash. He had read the news. Then he asked, “Sir, I am not from CSE. Is there anything here for me?” Yes, there is. But it is not what he imagined. That is why I wrote this guide.
I have counselled students for 27 years. I have watched many headlines turn into jobs. I have watched many more fade away. So here is the honest picture of AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers. What is coming, who is building it, which roles exist, what they pay and when to start.
What AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers Really Mean
An AI data centre is a large building full of computers. These computers run AI models. They need heavy power, strong cooling and very fast networks. Think of it as a factory. The product is computing.
A normal data centre stores websites and apps. An AI data centre does heavier work. It uses powerful chips called GPUs. Those chips get hot and eat electricity. So the building needs far more cooling and power.
Now the part that matters to you. When I talk about AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers, I mean two groups of jobs. Jobs inside the building. And jobs around it. Inside, you find technicians, network engineers and facility engineers. Around it, you find cloud teams, AI operations teams, construction crews and power companies. Both groups hire engineers. Not only CSE students.

The Projects Behind AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers
On 23 September 2026, Odisha’s High-Level Clearance Authority approved 27 projects. Four of them are data centre or AI infrastructure projects. Together they are worth about ₹1.43 lakh crore. You can read the details in the Business Standard report on the approvals and the Kalinga TV list of the 27 projects.
Here are the four.
- High Density Data Centre Limited: An Adani group company. It has approval for a ₹1,04,550 crore data centre park. It is planned as a 1 GW project, with about 250 acres earmarked by the state at Naraj, close to Cuttack. Job potential is 1,000.
- HCLTech with Sarvam AI: A ₹14,257 crore AI data centre at the Odisha Sovereign AI Park in Bhubaneswar. Job potential is 385.
- Sentraforge AI: A ₹22,634 crore AI data centre and GCC, planned as a 120 MW sovereign AI campus. The approval lists Puri, but the state has earmarked land at Tangiapada near Bhubaneswar’s Info Valley. Job potential is 2,320. I explained GCCs in my guide on the Odisha GCC Policy 2025 and freshers.
- RKD Construction: A ₹1,500 crore data centre in Cuttack. Job potential is 220.
Please read one more line carefully. HCLTech has not shared its capacity or its construction timetable yet. So this is a signed plan, not a running building. I covered the wider picture in my Odisha tech opportunities guide.

What the Numbers Say About AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers
Add up the job potential of the four projects. You get about 3,900 jobs. Sentraforge’s 2,320 even includes its GCC. And “job potential” is an estimate. It is not a hiring list.
So ₹1.43 lakh crore may bring only a few thousand direct jobs. Why? Because a data centre is mostly machines. A software office is mostly people. A big building can run with a small team.
Does that mean AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers are a myth? No. It means the direct jobs are few, and the jobs around them are many. Nationally, the government says data centre capacity may grow from about 1.5 GW to nearly 6.5 GW by 2030. It expects close to one lakh engineering jobs from that growth. Odisha will take its share. The students who prepare early will get it.
Jobs Inside the Building: AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers on the Floor
These are the roles most freshers start in.
- Data centre technician: Racks servers, runs cables, swaps parts. This is hands-on work.
- NOC engineer: Watches dashboards, spots alarms and raises tickets. It is close to what I described in my guide on the application support engineer career.
- Network engineer: Looks after switches and links between servers.
- Linux or systems engineer: Keeps the servers healthy.
- Critical facilities engineer: Handles power, UPS, generators and cooling. Electrical and Mechanical graduates fit well here.
Be ready for shift work in AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers. Data centres never sleep. That means night and weekend shifts. Many people grow out of shifts in a few years. But in the first year, you will do them.

Jobs Around the Building: AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers Beyond the Floor
- Cloud, DevOps and SRE roles: Companies that use the data centre need these people. My comparison of SRE vs DevOps careers for freshers shows how to choose.
- AI platform and MLOps roles: These teams run GPU clusters and deploy models. Most employers want some experience first. So freshers begin in support or cloud roles.
- GCC roles: Software, data and testing jobs, like those planned by Sentraforge.
- Construction roles: Civil, Electrical and Mechanical site engineers build the facility. One guide puts fresher pay here at ₹3.5 to ₹6 lakh a year.
- Power roles: AI data centres use huge electricity. Odisha’s green energy push connects directly. My green jobs guide for engineering graduates goes deeper.
There is also a local angle for AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers. The Sovereign AI Park plans AI services in Odia and other Indian languages. If you speak Odia and enjoy AI, that is a rare edge.
Which Branch Fits AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers
- CSE and IT: Cloud, DevOps, AI platform, GCC software roles.
- ECE: Network and hardware roles.
- Electrical and EEE: Power, UPS, cooling controls. Your branch is in high demand.
- Mechanical: Cooling systems, chillers, facility maintenance.
- Civil: Construction and site work.

What Freshers Earn in AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers
Let me be honest. Operations roles start modestly. Payscale’s 2026 data puts the early-career data centre technician average near ₹3.2 lakh a year. The range runs from about ₹2.6 lakh to ₹7 lakh. One salary guide shows fresher network engineers with a CCNA at ₹3 to ₹5 lakh, and higher with Linux and Python skills.
Cloud and DevOps roles at GCCs usually pay more. But they ask for more skills.
No honest person can quote you an Odisha data centre salary today. These buildings are not open yet. Use the national ranges as a rough guide. Then compare take-home after rent and travel.

Skills That Open the Door to AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers
- Technician and NOC roles: Computer hardware basics, networking basics, Linux commands, ticket handling.
- Network roles: CCNA-level concepts, IP addressing, switching, routing.
- Systems and cloud roles: Linux, Python, cloud basics, Git.
- Facility roles: Power systems, UPS, HVAC basics, safety rules.
- For every role: Clear English. Calm under pressure. Careful documentation.
Certifications help in AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers, but only the right ones. CompTIA A+, CCNA and a Linux certification are solid starts. Do one. Do not collect five.
When AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers Will Open
Today: Hiring already happens in other cities. Indeed Hiring Lab says data centre jobs were 1.3% of its India job postings in August 2026, up from 1.0% a year earlier. You can read the Indeed findings here. Software was 28% of postings, and IT operations and support was 15.6%. Google also ran its first India data centre technician internship this year. It accepted Mechanical and Electrical students too. Applications have closed, but see the Google Careers listing and watch for the next round.
2027 to 2028: Construction roles are likely to come first in Odisha. I say likely, not sure.
2028 onwards: Operations hiring for the new facilities. HCLTech’s separate Bhubaneswar technology centre is also expected to start around 2028. Dates can move. Watch official updates.
One industry guide says technicians often become senior technicians in 18 to 24 months. Engineer roles follow in three to five years. So the first job is a ladder, not a destination.

Three Mistakes That Can Cost You AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers
Mistake 1: Reading ₹1 lakh crore as one lakh jobs. Investment is not employment. Always ask how many direct jobs and by when.
Mistake 2: Waiting for Odisha to open. Take a good first job now, even in another city. Two years of experience will make you stronger when the buildings open.
Mistake 3: Ignoring “boring” roles. Support and operations roles do not look exciting. But they are the doorway into engineering roles.
FAQs — AI Data Centre Careers in Odisha for Freshers
FAQ 1 — Are AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers real or just headlines?
Both. The approvals are real government decisions. The job numbers are estimates. HCLTech’s project is a signed MoU with no public build timetable. So treat it as a serious plan, not a hiring drive. Real roles exist today in other cities. Odisha roles will follow as buildings come up.
Consultant’s note — I trust a project when I see land, construction and a careers page. Until then, I prepare but I do not plan my life around it.
FAQ 2 — How many jobs will AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers create?
The four approved projects list about 3,900 potential direct jobs. That number includes Sentraforge’s GCC. Many roles will go to experienced people first. Freshers will find openings in operations, support and construction. Indirect jobs will be larger, but nobody can count them yet.
Consultant’s note — Be careful with any article that gives one big number. Ask what is counted inside it.
FAQ 3 — Do I need CSE for AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
No. Electrical and Mechanical graduates are in real demand because of power and cooling. ECE students fit network roles. Civil students fit construction. CSE students fit cloud and platform roles.
Consultant’s note — If you are not from CSE, add one digital skill like Linux or networking. That mix is rare.
FAQ 4 — What is the salary in AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
Early-career technician pay averages near ₹3.2 lakh in national data. Network and cloud roles can pay more. Odisha facilities have not opened, so no one can quote you a local figure. Use ranges, and check the offer letter against living cost.
Consultant’s note — Do not chase the highest package in year one. Chase the role that teaches you the most.
FAQ 5 — Which certification should I do for AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
Pick one based on your role. CompTIA A+ suits technicians. CCNA suits network roles. A Linux certification suits systems and cloud roles. Power and cooling roles value safety training and your degree more. Finish one properly before starting another.
Consultant’s note — A certificate with no lab practice is just paper. Build a small home lab, even with a virtual machine.
FAQ 6 — Is shift work compulsory in AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
Most operations roles run in shifts because the building runs all day. Engineering and design roles often keep normal hours. Ask about shift rules in the interview. Ask about shift allowance too.
Consultant’s note — Shifts are tiring in year one. They become easier once you learn the systems.
FAQ 7 — I study in Rourkela, Sambalpur or Berhampur. Can I still try AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
Yes, but plan honestly. The planned sites are around Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, with one listed under Puri. You may need to relocate. Remote-friendly cloud and GCC roles can reduce that need. Start with companies near you, then move to the coast when roles open.
Consultant’s note — A student from a smaller town who is willing to relocate has an edge. Keep your documents ready.
FAQ 8 — Will automation reduce jobs in AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
Some routine tasks will be automated. That is true for every industry. But physical machines still need people. Power, cooling and hardware need hands and judgment. The students at risk are those who only know routine work.
Consultant’s note — Learn one automation skill, like basic Python scripting. Then automation helps you instead of replacing you.
FAQ 9 — Are internships available for AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
Not many in Odisha yet. Google ran an India data centre internship this year, with applications closed on 2 September 2026. Check the careers pages of large companies every month. Ask your college training cell too.
Consultant’s note — No internship? Build a lab project and write about it on LinkedIn. Recruiters notice effort.
FAQ 10 — I am in final year. Should I wait for AI data centre careers in Odisha for freshers?
No. Take the best offer you can get now. Support, cloud or network experience will help you later. Waiting without income weakens your profile. My placement season guide shows what to do this quarter.
Consultant’s note — Your first job is a bridge. Cross it first. Then choose your door.
