Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers -A 27-Year IT Career Consultant’s Honest Guide to What Is Real and What Needs Experience (2026)

Spread the Love & Technology

Agentic AI jobs for freshers is what a final-year student from Cuttack typed into WhatsApp last month, under a screenshot of a LinkedIn post.

Table of Contents

I’ll call her Smruti. The post said demand for agentic AI engineers in India had gone up 260 percent. Under it she had written one line. “Sir, should I stop applying to TCS and wait for these jobs?”

I told her no. Then I told her why. That conversation is this post.

Here is where we are going. First, what the 260 percent number really says. Then why most of these roles ask for experience. Then the doors that are open to a fresher this year. At the end, a plan you can start this week.

One note before we begin. Salary figures for this field are all over the place. I have quoted ranges from published sources and marked them as rough. Check every number against the job post in front of you.

Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers: The Short Answer First

Agentic AI jobs for freshers exist, but they are fewer than the headlines suggest. Most posts I read while writing this guide asked for experience. A few welcomed freshers with good projects.

Here is how I see it today.

The real part. Companies in India are hiring for AI work, and the growth is genuine. Two separate reports point the same way.

The part that needs experience. The title “Agentic AI Engineer” usually comes with two or more years of work behind it. A fresher rarely walks straight into it.

The fresher door. Python developer roles in teams that use generative AI, AI testing roles, and automation roles. These are open, and they lead to the bigger titles.

My advice to Smruti on agentic AI jobs for freshers was simple. Keep preparing for the regular IT hiring programs. Build one real AI project on the side. Do not wait for a perfect job title.

Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers: What the Word “Agentic” Means

Most of you already use AI that answers. You type a question, and it replies. Agentic AI acts.

You give it a goal. It makes a plan, uses tools, and completes the steps. A person watches over it.

Take a bank’s customer help desk. A chatbot tells you which documents you need for a loan. An agent reads your query, checks your record, drafts the reply, and sends the odd cases to a human.

Companies need people to build these systems, connect them to real data, and check that they behave. That is the work behind the job titles.

Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers and the 260 Percent Headline

Let me start with the number Smruti sent me.

A report by the HR firm CIEL HR found that demand for agentic AI engineers grew 260 percent in 2026 compared with 2025. It was the sharpest rise among the emerging roles the firm tracked. Business Today covered the study, and so did Outlook Business. The same coverage reports other roles rising too. GenAI solutions architects and AI product owners grew 120 percent each. LLM engineers grew 86.5 percent. MLOps engineers grew 82.2 percent.

A second number came from Naukri’s JobSpeak report. AI and machine learning hiring rose 31 percent year on year in August. Overall fresher hiring rose 15 percent.

These numbers are real. But read them carefully before you celebrate.

A percentage is not a head count. The coverage I read does not say how many jobs sit behind the 260 percent. Suppose a role had 100 openings last year and has 360 now. That is fast growth, and it is still a small number of jobs. I am using round figures here only to show the idea.

The growth leans towards experience. The same Naukri report says AI and ML hiring is heavily skewed to experienced people. Hiring for the 16-plus years band more than doubled. The 13 to 16 years band grew 87 percent. The 8 to 12 years band grew 39 percent. The fresher number that rose 15 percent is for all fields, not AI alone.

Naukri also reminds readers that JobSpeak tracks hiring activity on its platform. It does not count jobs created. And its CEO said the festive calendar shifted this year, so the full picture will come later.

So the headline is true. It is just not a headline about agentic AI jobs for freshers.

Why Most Agentic AI Roles Ask for Experience

I see three reasons.

Agents break in odd ways. A chatbot that gives a wrong answer is an embarrassment. An agent that acts on a wrong answer can issue a wrong refund. Companies want someone who has seen systems fail and fixed them.

Companies are training their own people first. The CIEL coverage says IT services firms are expanding AI training and reskilling programs, and bringing existing staff into them. When a company trains its own engineers, fewer seats go to outsiders.

Entry-level tasks are changing. The same report says AI can already handle up to 70 percent of the workload in ticket resolution and report generation, and about 65 percent in test case creation. Those are tasks many freshers used to start with. This is my reading of it, and the report itself says these jobs are not fully automated. But the starting tasks are shifting.

None of this closes the door on agentic AI jobs for freshers. It means the door has moved. If you are worried about the larger question, I have written about it in AI killing engineering jobs in India.

Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers: Five Doors That Are Actually Open

Here are the entry points for agentic AI jobs for freshers that I would look at first. None of them promises a job. Each one is a real route.

Door 1: Python developer in a team that uses GenAI

This is the one I would bet on. The title may not say “AI” at all. You write normal code, APIs and database queries. Then your team adds an AI feature, and you get pulled in.

Python, SQL, Git and a basic idea of how to call an AI model from code are the ingredients.

Door 2: AI testing and evaluation

This one surprised me when I started reading job posts. Companies need people to test AI itself. Does the chatbot make things up? Does the agent do what it was told? Does the answer change when the question is worded differently?

A Bengaluru company, LightMetrics, posted a QA-AI Engineer role in May 2026. It says freshers can apply. The work is testing AI models, building test data sets, and benchmarking. A remote startup post I found asked for 0 to 2 years of experience and said freshers with strong AI projects were welcome. Half the job was testing AI agents and LLM workflows.

Larger companies also hire for this, but they ask for more. One post asked for three to four years in test automation. Another asked for a test lead. That tells you the ladder. You can climb it, but you start lower.

The skills named in these posts are Python, Pytest, and evaluation tools such as DeepEval and RAGAS. You do not need to master them. You need to have tried one.

Door 3: Automation and workflow roles

I run automation and growth consulting through Rtek Digital, so I see this side up close. Small and mid-sized businesses want people who can connect forms, CRMs, messaging tools and an AI step into one working flow. It is not glamorous work. It is real work, and it teaches you how businesses actually run.

Door 4: IT services and GCC entry programs

Large firms hire thousands of freshers and then train them. Some of that training now includes AI. If you join through a regular program, you get paid while you learn, and you are inside the company when AI projects start. I compared three of these programs in my guide on Infosys DSE vs Cognizant GenC Next vs Wipro Turbo.

Door 5: Internships at small AI startups

Many small companies care more about your project than your marks. Some are remote. Be careful with any “AI internship” that asks you to pay. Real internships pay you or at least do not charge you. My guide on how to find off campus placement for freshers shows how to check a company before you apply.

What Needs Experience and What Does Not

Here is my honest read. It is my judgment from reading posts and counselling students. It is not a count.

Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers and the Pay Question

Salary is where most posts on agentic AI jobs for freshers go wrong, so let me be careful.

Published ranges for entry-level agentic AI roles in India are wide. One guide, quoting Glassdoor, said the average was about ₹6.4 lakh a year. That sample was only about 13 self-reported salaries. A CareerIndia piece put junior engineers at ₹6 to 12 lakh. A guide from a training company said ₹4 to 12 lakh, depending on college, internships and project quality. One university listing showed ₹6 lakh for an agentic AI engineer.

My read on agentic AI jobs for freshers pay is this. For a fresher from a tier-2 college, the lower half of that range is more likely than the top. The ₹30 lakh and ₹60 lakh figures you see in headlines are for senior people.

Offer letter and calculator on a desk comparing fixed pay for AI roles.

For comparison, the regular IT services tracks I covered in my other guides pay about ₹3.5 to 4 lakh at the base and ₹6 to 7 lakh on the higher tracks. So an AI-linked first job may pay a little more. It may not.

Small samples, copied numbers, and training companies selling courses all push these figures up. Treat every number as a rough guide. Do the in-hand sums using my guide on in-hand salary vs CTC, and read my post on the AI skills salary premium for the wider picture.

Three Projects That Make Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers Easier to Win

A certificate tells an interviewer you sat through classes. A project tells them you can build. Pick one of these.

6

1. A document question-answer bot. Load a set of real PDFs, such as your college syllabus or notes on a government scheme. Let people ask questions. Then show where it gets answers wrong and what you did about it.

2. A small agent that does one job end to end. For example, it reads emails in one folder, tags them, and drafts replies. A person approves each reply before it goes out. That approval step shows you understand the risk.

3. A test set for someone else’s AI. Take a free chatbot. Write 50 questions with correct answers. Score the chatbot. Write down where it fails and why. This is the evaluation skill that Door 2 asks for, and very few freshers show it.

For each project, keep one GitHub repo. Write the README in plain English. Add a two-minute screen recording. If your resume is going through automatic screening, my guide on how AI-powered ATS systems screen freshers will help you list these projects properly.

Mistakes I See Every Year

Paying for a certificate before learning Python. One course comparison I read warns that course quality varies, and that some repackage prompt engineering as agent building. Learn the basics first.

Applying only to jobs titled “Agentic AI Engineer.” That is the narrowest door. Use all five.

Collecting tool names. LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen. A list of names is not a project. One finished project beats ten tool names.

Skipping SQL, APIs and Git. Every AI role sits on top of these.

Copying a tutorial exactly. Interviewers ask, “What did you change?” Have an answer.

Believing the salary posts. If a post promises ₹20 lakh to a fresher, ask who is selling something.

A Twelve-Week Plan You Can Start This Week

Study desk with a twelve-week calendar planning an AI project.

Weeks 1 to 4: Python and APIs. One language, Python. Practice lists, dictionaries, functions, and reading data from a web API. Add basic SQL. One small program a day.

Weeks 5 to 8: Your first AI project. Build the document question-answer bot. Use free tiers and free tutorials. A freeCodeCamp AI agents course for beginners is a solid free place to start.

Weeks 9 to 10: Test it. Write 50 test questions for your own bot. Score it. Fix what fails. Write it up.

Weeks 11 to 12: Package and apply. Clean the README. Record the demo. Update your resume and LinkedIn. Apply to all five doors for agentic AI jobs for freshers, not one.

If self-study is not working for you, Rooman Technologies runs job-oriented IT training programs, and I am its state business partner in Odisha, so weigh my view accordingly. Ask for the syllabus before you pay anyone, including us.

To fit all this into your college calendar, follow my placement season guide for October to December.

If You Don’t Land an AI Role

If you miss agentic AI jobs for freshers this year, it is fine.

Take a regular developer, testing or support job at a good company. The CIEL coverage says firms are reskilling their own staff. Being inside the company is how many people get pulled into AI work after a year or two.

Keep your project alive. Keep your Python sharp. Your next move may come from within.

Your Action Steps for Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers, Year by Year

Engineering students of different years on campus planning AI career steps.

First and second year: Learn Python properly. Solve one problem a day. Learn basic SQL.

Pre-final year: Build the document question-answer bot. Get one internship or one real project. Start a GitHub profile.

Final year, now: Prepare for your regular placement drives first. Add one AI project in the evenings. Apply to Door 1 and Door 2 roles. Ask your placement cell which companies are hiring for AI-linked roles.

Already graduated: Finish the twelve-week plan. Apply off campus every week. Track every application in one sheet.

FAQs: Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers

FAQ 1: Are there really agentic AI jobs for freshers in India?

Yes, but not in the numbers the headlines suggest. Demand is growing, and two reports confirm it. But most posts that carry the title “Agentic AI Engineer” ask for experience. The openings that welcome freshers tend to sit in nearby roles, such as AI testing, Python development in GenAI teams, and automation. Some small startups also hire freshers with strong projects. So the honest answer is that agentic AI jobs for freshers are real, narrow, and easier to reach through a side door. Prepare for the side doors, and keep the main title as your goal for year two or three.

Consultant’s Note: Aim at the ladder, not just the top rung.

FAQ 2: Do I need a master’s degree or an IIT tag for agentic AI jobs for freshers?

I did not find that in the posts I read. One QA-AI post asked for a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Most others on agentic AI jobs for freshers asked for skills. Those skills were Python, API work, testing basics and some AI evaluation.

A strong project often counts for more than a famous name on the certificate. That said, a good college still helps you get shortlisted. If your college is not famous, your GitHub and your demo video have to work harder. Start them early.

Consultant’s Note: When the college name is weak, the proof of work must be strong.

FAQ 3: Which programming language should I learn for agentic AI jobs for freshers?

Python. Nearly every post on agentic AI jobs for freshers that I came across uses it. Learn the basics well first. That means functions, lists, dictionaries, reading files and calling a web API. Then add SQL and Git. After that, you can try one agent or AI library. Do not jump between five languages. Depth in one language will carry you further than a little knowledge of many. If you already know Java, keep it, but add Python for this work.

Consultant’s Note: One language, used daily, beats five languages, glanced at.

FAQ 4: Can non-CSE students get agentic AI jobs for freshers?

It is harder, but not closed. ECE, EEE and other branches often learn enough programming to enter testing or automation roles. Mechanical and Civil students will need more effort, and I would not push them towards this field first. If your branch has strong local options, look at those. I have written a full guide on jobs for non-CSE freshers in Odisha. If you still want AI, start with Python and the evaluation project, and apply for testing and automation roles where the branch rule is lighter.

Consultant’s Note: Your branch gets you in the queue. Your project moves you forward.

FAQ 5: What salary can I expect from agentic AI jobs for freshers?

Published ranges run from about ₹4 lakh to ₹12 lakh, and the samples behind them are small. One source quoting Glassdoor had only about 13 reports. My read is that a fresher from a tier-2 college is more likely to land in the lower half. Salary also depends on the employer type, the city and the project work you show. Always check your offer letter for fixed pay, bonus and service agreement. Do not plan your rent on a number from a social media post.

Consultant’s Note: Plan your life on the fixed pay in your offer letter, never on a viral figure.

FAQ 6: Do I need an agentic AI course or certificate?

Not as a first step. For agentic AI jobs for freshers, a free course plus one finished project is a better start than a paid course with no project. One comparison I read warns that some paid courses repackage prompt engineering as agent building. If you do pay for something, check three things. Does it teach Python properly? Do you build something yourself? Can you see the syllabus before you pay? If the answer to any of them is no, walk away.

Consultant’s Note: Pay for a skill you can demonstrate, not a certificate you can only frame.

FAQ 7: Is the 260 percent demand number reliable?

It comes from CIEL HR, an HR services firm, and was reported by outlets such as Business Today and Outlook Business. It tells you the direction. It does not tell you the size. The coverage I read does not state how many jobs sit behind the figure, and the same study tracked only certain emerging roles. A big percentage on a small base can still be a small number of jobs.

Use it as a sign that the field is moving, not as a count of agentic AI jobs for freshers you can apply to.

Consultant’s Note: Read the direction from a percentage. Read the size from the job portal.

FAQ 8: Will AI agents replace entry-level jobs?

Some entry-level tasks are shrinking. The CIEL coverage says AI can already handle a large share of work in ticket resolution, report generation and test case creation, though it does not say these jobs are fully automated. At the same time, new tasks appear, such as testing AI, connecting tools and watching over agents.

The people who adapt first tend to do well. I have covered this fear in detail in my post on AI killing engineering jobs in India. The short version is that the starting tasks are changing, and your skills must change with them.

Consultant’s Note: Learn the task that is replacing the old task. That is where freshers fit in.

FAQ 9: Can I find agentic AI jobs for freshers in Odisha or Bhubaneswar?

Directly, agentic AI jobs for freshers in Odisha are few today. I would not promise otherwise. Naukri’s July 2026 index showed overall white-collar hiring in Bhubaneswar up 24 percent year on year, according to Staffing Industry Analysts. That figure covers all jobs, not AI jobs. Remote roles, and offices in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Pune, are other routes. For the local picture, read my Odisha tech opportunities map.

Consultant’s Note: Let your skills travel, even if your home address stays in Odisha.

FAQ 10: How long does it take to get ready for agentic AI jobs for freshers?

Most roadmaps I read say three to six months of steady study for an engineer who already codes. I agree for finishing your first project. I do not agree that three months makes you job-ready. Interviews test basics, such as Python, SQL and problem solving, along with your project.

So give yourself the twelve-week plan above for the first project, and keep practicing basics alongside it. If you start in your final year, begin now and keep your regular placement preparation running.

Consultant’s Note: Three months gets you a project. Six months gets you a profile.

Final Word on Agentic AI Jobs for Freshers

Agentic AI jobs for freshers are not a myth, and they are not a shortcut. They are real jobs that mostly ask for experience, with a few doors open to people who can show a project.

Smruti kept her TCS NQT preparation going. She started the document question-answer bot in the evenings. She stopped asking whether to wait. That was the right change.

Start Week 1 of the plan tomorrow. Open Python, write one small program, and save it on GitHub. That one step puts you ahead of most students who only forward the headline.

Graduate leaving campus with a laptop bag, starting an AI career.
